Insider: Tottenham could complete 'perfect signing' of Dele Alli's best mate in January

James Maddison is a “perfect” signing Tottenham could make in the January transfer window.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Maddison, 25, bagged a goal and two assists as Leicester beat Watford 4-2 on 28 November.

Three days earlier, he also picked up a goal and an assist against Legia Warsaw in the Europa League.

Wenham only has one issue with the potential signing, Maddison’s relationship with Dele Alli.

“I’ve mentioned Maddison before,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I was laughed at on Twitter when I suggested we should sign him.

“He’s a player who would instantly improve our starting side, he would make a big difference.

“My only concern with him is that he is very close with Dele Alli.

“A lot of the reasons I criticise Alli, Maddison can sometimes do the same things.

“But unlike Alli, Maddison does his talking on the pitch and always turns in quality performances.

“Obviously Arsenal were very interested in him in the summer but I don’t see any reason we wouldn’t join us.

“Maddison is the perfect signing to help unlock the potential of this side.”

Maddison has bagged three goals and four assists in 19 total outings for Leicester this season.

He has some way to go to match last season’s haul of 11 goals and 10 assists in 42 total outings.
