Sunderland and Oxford United have set their sights on signing Ipswich Town star Gwion Edwards, Football Insider can reveal.
The winger, 27, has just entered the final year of his contract at Portman Road and could leave this summer.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Sunderland and Oxford are keeping close tabs on Edwards’ situation.
They are both big admirers of the Welshman and believe he can be a big asset at League One level or even in the Championship.
Edwards has spent the last two years at Ipswich after signing from Peterborough United for around £700,000 in the summer of 2018.
Capped by Wales at Under-21 level, the Swansea City academy product has also had spells at Crawley Town and St Johnstone.
Edwards, who is primarily a winger operating on the right flank, has scored eight goals and supplied four assists in 69 Ipswich appearances.
Oxford could be playing in the English second tier next season if they triumph in the League One play-offs.
They face Portsmouth in their semi-final clash, with the first leg taking place at Fratton Park tomorrow night.
It will be followed by the second leg at the Kassam Stadium a few days later on Monday, July 6.
