Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom has responded to speculation about his job by saying that it came as a “surprise to everyone” – but fans aren’t buying it.

Heckingbottom was talking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Championship clash with Aston Villa.

The speculation came from a Football Insider exclusive, that said that he was set for the axe after a disastrous run of form has seen them win just 12 games since the former Barnsley man took over.

His words were reported by Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post on Thursday lunchtime.

Fans picked up on the ‘no reason’ remark with incredulity – one fan said that he’d lost the support of the fans and that it could “get ugly” at the Villa game on Friday night.

Another fan put it bluntly saying it’s a surprise to nobody: “It’s a results game and his are terrible”.
