Benjamin Sesko could be another “disaster” signing for Manchester United if he fails to make the grade at Old Trafford.

The Slovenia international has been linked with several top clubs following his impressive campaign with RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old, who is under contract until 2029, registered 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances last season.

Newcastle United have made a £69.8million bid to sign Sesko as they look to find a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who has emerged as a target for Liverpool.

However, Sky Sports reported on Monday (4 August) Man United are now expected to make a formal offer for Sesko.

The striker is believed to be in favour of a move to Old Trafford despite being open to joining both clubs this summer.

Benjamin Sesko could be worth three times his valuation

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Man United are planning to sell Rasmus Hojlund if they can sign a new forward this summer, with Sesko now emerging at the top of their list.

Speaking exclusively to Football InsiderBorson said: “As with all of these deals, if it works, it's a bargain, right?

“It’s £69million for a 22-year-old striker. If it works, he's worth three times that by the time you've had 10 years of a top striker.

“If it fails, then they've got another disaster on their hands because we know that they've got a whole succession of failed forwards that they bought over the last few years, so it's very difficult for United to know one way or the other.

“They have got to be able to sort of lay their bets and hope, and Sesko will fall into that category.”

Ruben Amorim has changed his mind on Kobbie Mainoo

In terms of other transfer activity at Old Trafford, Football Insider revealed on 3 August Kobbie Mainoo is likely to stay at Man United despite interest from the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Ruben Amorim was not initially convinced by the England international, but he’s been won over by his performances in training and now values him as a key member of his squad.

The 20-year-old endured an injury-hit 2024-25 season, where he registered just two goals and one assist in 37 appearances.
