Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has expressed his delight after he signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The deal was announced a short time ago on the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

The 19-year-old has thanked Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers for the faith that he always had in him, as Ajer has become a fixture in the side since December.

“It’s a big honour to sign for this massive club again, and renew my contract, and I’m really, really delighted, I have to thank the gaffer and the rest of his staff for the help they’ve given me,” he said, as shown on the Hoops’ Twitter account.

Ajer hasn’t looked back since becoming a first-team regular following the Hoops’ 4-0 loss to Hearts in December, and he looks certain to become a mainstay for many years to come.

Football Insider verdict

This is a great piece of business by the Hoops, as no doubt many teams would have been watching Ajer’s performance and been impressed with what they saw, as the player has been excellent since becoming a regular in the first-team. Perhaps one of the best aspects of Ajer’s time in the first-team is that his presence has meant that his defence team-mates have upped their game to show that they belong in the side along with the teenager, and Dedryck Boyata is a prime example of that, as he has put in some excellent appearances in recent weeks for the Hoops. With this new deal Ajer should be a mainstay in the side for years to come, and with the recent contracts signed by Kieran Tierney and Scott Bain it looks like the Hoops are building a new spine to their line-up which could last for a good few years, it’s well done to the Hoops for getting this deal done.
