'It's a great signing' - Exclusive: Pundit blown away after Newcastle agree deal
Noel Whelan has claimed that Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce will be “overjoyed” about the signing of left-back Danny Rose.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker hailed the move as a “great” piece of business for the Magpies.
The Toon Army confirmed the 29-year-old’s arrival on from Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, with the England international set to stay until the end of the season on loan.
Rose was on the bench for his new side’s 0-0 draw with Norwich City on Saturday afternoon, and Whelan believes that Bruce will be delighted to have him in the north east.
“It’s a great signing, it really is,” he told Football Insider.
“A player with a wealth of experience, an international, great, great player. He’s box-to-box, your modern day wing-back that you want, somebody’s who’s got a level head, somebody who seems to be very excited to play for Newcastle – and that’s what you want.

“He had no hesitations in moving, it was done very swiftly between Tottenham and Newcastle, and I can imagine that Steve Bruce is overjoyed that he’s got somebody with that quality into the club to help them for the rest of the season.”
Rose had fallen down the pecking order at Spurs in recent weeks, and had registered just 69 minutes in the Premier League since Christmas.
The defender is a veteran of the top flight, however, having made 183 appearances in the division over the course of his career, as well as having 29 England caps to his name.
