'It's Brilliant' - Exclusive: Kevin Phillips blown away by Spurs board talks
Kevin Phillips has praised Daniel Levy after he overturned the Tottenham furlough decision after board talks with senior stars.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested pressure from those associated with the club helped the chairman come to the right conclusion in the end.
The Lilywhites announced in late March that 550 non-playing staff are to be placed on furlough leave to “protect jobs” amid the financial struggles of the COVID-19 crisis.
However, yesterday the club reversed the decision, Levy told the club’s website, “We regret any concern caused during an anxious time.”
As revealed by Football Insider, Tottenham made a U-turn after the board held talks with fuming senior players.
Phillips was thrilled with the decision and whilst he accepted the club will still receive criticism, he insisted credit is due for the U-turn.

“It is brilliant,” he told Football Insider.
“There has been a lot of pressure from ex-players, the Supporters’ Trust and fan clubs across the country.
“Liverpool did it and overturned it pretty quick.
“Of course, Daniel Levy will still get criticism because it has taken so long but give him credit. He has turned it around and they have still got 500 staff that work there. It is great to hear they will still be on full pay. Well done Daniel even though it took a little bit longer than we would have liked.”
Spurs followed Liverpool in reversing their decision after the Reds chief executive Peter Moore apologised for their initial decision.
The announcement means only Newcastle United, Norwich, Bournemouth and Sheffield United have furloughed staff in the Premier League.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson has told Football Insider wonderkid should stay and “mould himself” on superstar.
