Gabby Agbonlahor is loving the best Scottish title race in a decade and insisted a captivating all-out fight between Celtic and Rangers is definitely “happening”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the recently-retired former Aston Villa striker claimed it’s “great for Scottish football” that the Glasgow giants are so closely matches.

Resurgent Rangers top the Scottish Premiership by nine points after a remarkable start to the campaign leaves them unbeaten across all competitions.

But Celtic have two matches in hand on their bitter rivals and a battle-hardened squad who are on course for the quadruple treble.

Asked by Football Insider, who works as a pundit for talkSPORT as well as , explained why his colleague is well wide of the mark.

“The trophy cabinet must be overflowing with the amount they’re winning. I feel like the
problem with football is what do they want, Celtic to win every game for the rest of time?

“It’s not going to happen. Teams are going to get better, they’re going to build squads which can challenge Celtic and that’s what Rangers are doing.

“It’s good, it’s great for Scottish football that it’s happening. It used to be: ‘Alright, Celtic are going to win it.’

“You couldn’t even get odds on it at the start of the season but now it’s getting closer and that’s what everyone as a neutral wants to see.

“I remember always watching Rangers and Celtic games on TV as a kid because it was so competitive and that’s what you want it to get back to.

“People have got to understand Celtic are going to lose games, like Liverpool are losing games this season, they’re not going to beat everyone.

“But they will be fine – top club, top team and I think the sooner fans are back in the stadium will have a big effect and big plus for Celtic because they’ve probably got the best fans in the world for me.”

In other news, Celtic are expected to complete the signing of a £60K-a-week sensation in 2021.
