'It's Obscene' - Pundit drops big Everton transfer claim as contract plot reported
Michael Brown insists that Marcel Brands needed to improve his recruitment record this year after spending an “obscene” amount at Everton.
The former Premier League midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims there has been plenty of money wasted on new signings at Goodison Park.
The Liverpool Echo report that the Toffees are set to wait until January before deciding whether to open talks with the Dutchman over a new deal as he heads towards the end of his current contract.
Brands joined Everton from PSV Eindhoven back in 2018 and has played a significant role in the club’s recruitment.
Brown insists that while the likes of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have been impressive additions, the Toffees needed improvements after a number of expensive failures at Goodison Park.
“You wouldn’t want to change things now with where Everton are at,” Brown told Football Insider.

“You must say, with the spend over the last few years at Everton, the recruitment had to get better. The amount of money spent and wasted, you look at value of the squad.
“They had something like the 12th biggest spending in Europe and it’s just obscene. They finally seem to be getting somewhere with the squad.”
Everton made five permanent and one loan signing during the summer window, while they sold two, loaned two out and released a further eight on free transfers.
The likes of Moise Kean, Alex Iwobi, Fabian Delph and Jean Phillipe-Gbamin have all struggled to make their mark since joining the club in 2019.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are said to have been “taking a risk” in big striker transfer reveal.
