Ivan Perisic set for unfamiliar role at Tottenham after Saturday development - Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Ivan Perisic will be a squad player for Tottenham this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and Aston Villa defender suggested Antonio Conte will predominantly utilise Perisic as an impactful substitute.

The 33-year-old was named on the bench for Tottenham’s opening Premier League game against Southampton on Saturday (6 August).

Perisic was brought on in place of Ryan Sessegnon for the final half an hour.

Antonio Conte’s side secured a 4-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As quoted by Football.London (6 August), the Croatia international said his new teammates have “helped him” to settle in at the London club as well as in his recovery from injury.

The winger suffered a muscle injury in his final game for Inter Milan and admitted it was a difficult rehabilitation period.

When asked by Football Insider if Perisic, who was a regular starter for Inter Milan, will be used as a squad player this season, Hutton said: “I think he will be a squad player this season.

He’s a player that obviously Antonio Conte knows, he can rely on, I don’t think he’s going to start 25 or 30 games but he might come on for that impact, that sub impact, something different.

So he could come on in that sense as a substitute but I don’t see him playing regularly, especially when they’ve got the likes of Richarlison, these kinds of guys, in the attacking areas.
