Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Tottenham summer signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after admitting he has been proved wrong by a player he had thought was average.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former White Hart Lane number one claimed that the 25-year-old has emerged as “the first name on the teamsheet”.
The Lilywhites signed the Denmark international from Southampton in a £15million deal in August, the centre-midfielder penning a five-year deal in north London.
Hojbjerg has been ever-present for Spurs in the Premier League this season, helping Jose Mourinho’s side to second in the table after eight games.
Robinson admitted that he has been surprised by the impact of the former Bayern Munich player.
“I have been really impressed with Hojbjerg this season,” he told Football Insider.
“I was not overly taken when Spurs signed him. I did not think, ‘Oh Wow. Great. That is an unbelievable signing.’
“He was not one who I thought would make a huge difference, especially with the abundance of quality Spurs have got in the midfield already.
“But he has been outstanding so far this season. The biggest credit you can pay to him is that he is the first name on the teamsheet.
“He makes everything tick for Spurs. He settles the team down and keeps things simple. Other players trust him and he has become the lynchpin of that side. He is such an integral part of what they do.”
