Frank McAvennie has claimed that Fraser Forster could sign for Celtic this week but suggested it would only be on a second season-long loan deal.
The Hoops legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted that the 32-year-old is the man that is the man Neil Lennon wants between the sticks next season.
Forster returned to Southampton earlier this month after a highly successful loan spell at Parkhead where he won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup.
Football Insider revealed on Monday that a second season-long loan deal was firmly on the cards with a permanent move unlikely because of the player’s wage demands.
McAvennie is adamant the Englishman will want to return to Glasgow to be part of a side gunning for 10-in-a-row.
“I have been told that they are still in talks and that he could sign for Celtic this week,” he told Football Insider. “I heard that on Tuesday night.
“Forster is the man the manager wants.
“He will not get a game for Southampton so go back to Celtic on loan. He knows what it would mean to the supporters and what it would mean to win this 10.
“If he was to sign permanently I think the wages are too high but he can still join on loan.
“He is a very good keeper so I would be delighted if we signed him again.”

The Hoops did confirm the signing of a Southampton player this week – Mohamed Elyounoussi joining on another season-long loan deal.
Forster kept 17 clean sheets in 39 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side in the 2019/20 campaign.
