James Milner: Pundit issues 'priceless' Liverpool claim after reliable journalist's talks update
Liverpool should offer James Milner a new contract on his current terms, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 36-year-old’s experience and professionalism is “priceless” to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Milner’s current deal expires at the end of June.
According to Fabrizio Romano (15 February), the centre-midfielder has been offered a one-year extension, with talks now underway between the two parties.
Klopp is said to be very keen on retaining Milner’s services next season.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the situation, Robinson said:
“Milner is such an important player for Liverpool and Klopp knows that.
“For the dressing room he’s vital. He helps with the integration of new players into the side and sets standards in training. You cannot buy those type of characters. That’s priceless.
“If I was Liverpool, I’d be giving him the exact same deal as he is on right now for another year. He is so important to that dressing room.
“You can rely on him whenever you want. You know what you are going to get, in whatever position it may be.
“Somebody of his experience and professionalism is rare. It’s key that they keep him.”
Leeds United and Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Milner.
Milner began his career at Elland Road and also spent three seasons at Villa Park.
