Jenas claims this Liverpool unsung hero more important than Mane and Firmino
By Dominic Toner
Jermaine Jenas believes that Adam Lallana has been Liverpool’s best player so far this season.
Lallana, 28, has been used in a central midfield position by Jurgen Klopp and has struck a formidable partnership with team-mates Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijaldum.
Klopp’s summer recruit Sadio Mane has settled very quickly at Anfield and his pace is becoming a huge asset of Liverpool’s slick football.
Brazilian Roberto Firmino has scored three goals in all competitions this season and been preferred in attack ahead of Daniel Sturridge.
Despite several Liverpool players starting the season in good form, the performances of Lallana have been the standout feature for Jenas.

The pundit and former player has highlighted how much Lallana has developed at Anfield and believes his game has gone to a new level.
“The midfielder came into his own at the end of the last season on Liverpool’s run to the Europa League final and was then one of the few players to emerge with credit from England’s Euro 2016 campaign,” he wrote on the Yahoo Sport website. “This year he has carried on that good form – to the degree that I think he has been the Reds’ best player this season.
“There is a lot of competition for that accolade – Sadio Mane has been a great signing and Jordan Henderson has been excellent, while Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have chipped in with important goals – but Lallana has been better than all of them. In the last 12 months he has taken his game to a new level, and the catalyst for this improvement has been unexpected.”
The England midfielder has been in impressive form at the start of the new campaign and featured in all six of the club’s matches.
The Reds have been a real attacking force at the start of the season by scoring 16 goals, with Lallana netting a goal in each of the wins against Arsenal and Leicester.
The midfielder moved to Liverpool in 2014 from Southampton and has established himself as a crucial player under Klopp.
Lallana has made 96 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 15 goals and supplying 13 assists.
In other Liverpool news, Klopp advised a German midfielder to join the club’s rivals.
