Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has labelled ex-star Luka Modric “an absolute disgrace” due to how good he was in north London.
The now 31-year-old Real Madrid star spent four years with Spurs, playing in 160 matches for the club and bringing a return of 17 goals and 27 assists.
He made the move to Tottenham in 2008 for £16.5million from Dinamo Zagreb before almost doubling the fee in 2012 as he completed a £30million switch to the La Liga giants.
Now, current midfield star Dele Alli is being lambasted as a disgrace following his red card in Thursday evening’s Gent defeat.
But, Jenas used the word to compliment Modric for his ability after playing alongside him during the Croatian’s time at the club.
“I’m going to say Modric, because I don’t class Bale as a midfield player to be honest with you, he played on the wing at the time,” started Jenas speaking on Copa90 after he was asked about the best midfielder he played with at Spurs.
“Apologies Raf (Van Der Vaart), but Luka was just an absolute disgrace, honestly he was so good.
“There were times when even in training I remember saying to myself ‘right today I’m…..’ because training can be fun, you have a laugh, but it was like ‘right I’m taking it serious today, I’m going to try and get this ball off you if I’m up against you’ and you just couldn’t get the ball off him.
“He was small, wasn’t that strong, wasn’t quick, but he was just an absolute genius. Honestly, the tighter and more intense the spaces got, the better he got. He was just two, three steps ahead of everybody, so Luka Modric and to this day I love watching him play he’s absolutely brilliant.”
Both Modric and Jenas were heavily involved in Tottenham’s last good run in Europe as they reached the quarter-final stage of the Champions League before an aggregate 5-0 defeat against Real Madrid in 2011.
However, their highest league finish with Spurs was fourth place in 2010, in comparison to the current side who finished in third in the last campaign.
The north London club have certainly enjoyed a good recent history with players such as Modric, Gareth Bale, Rafael van der Vaart and Harry Kane to name a few and fans will be hoping for more success in the future.
