Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers to sign permanent deals after 'great news for Celtic' - pundit

Celtic will sign Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota on permanent deals this summer as they look set to guarantee a place in next season’s Champions League group stages.

That is according to ex-Aston Villa and England attacker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the future of the on-loan stars.

Portuguese outlet A Bola reported on Tuesday (3 May) that Celtic are in negotiations with Jota, 23, over a permanent move and have told Benfica they intend to trigger the £6.3million release clause in his loan deal.

Meanwhile, football.london reported last month (5 April) that they will have to pay an initial £6million to land Carter-Vickers, 24, permanently which could rise to £10million add-ons.

Both excelled as Celtic drew 1-1 with Rangers on Sunday (1 May) which means they only have to avoid defeat in any one of their final three games to clinch the Scottish Premiership title.

ESPN’s Dale Johnson reported on Monday (2 May) that means they will enter the Champions League at the group stage.

“Oh, Champions League football makes you very attractive,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You get the money in and you know you’re going to attract better players. It’s great news for Celtic.

“I think they’ll be able to keep Carter-Vickers and Jota. They will be able to offer the players Champions League football. That’s a big thing for players.

“For me, I don’t think they are better than Celtic. I don’t think Jota plays in the Premier League, he’s not a top-10 Premier League player. I don’t think Carter-Vickers is either.

“If Jota looked elsewhere I don’t think he gets into a top-f10 Premier League club.

“Celtic is the perfect fit for him. He’s going to get Champions League football so it’s a no brainer to stay there.”
