Leeds United secured their position at the top of the Championship on Monday (24 February) by defeating Sheffield United 3-1.

An Illan Meslier mistake had handed the Blades an early lead, but the Whites battled back into the game with Junior Firpo drawing them level in the 72nd minute.

That was followed by extremely late drama as Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe scored in the final two minutes of normal time.

The result extended Leeds’ gap at the top of the Championship to five points and provided a huge boost to their promotion hopes.

Daniel Farke’s team haven’t lost a game in the league since November 30’s 1-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers, with the consistency benefitting their campaign.

Leeds will now face West Brom on Saturday (1 March) in a bid to continue that run of form.

Junior Firpo is having a season to remember

Firpo’s goal was a crucial one within the game, and served as another reminder of his attacking qualities.

The 28-year-old is putting together an impressive individual campaign within this Leeds team, having scored two goals and provided eight assists in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Leeds fans want Junior Firpo’s future secured

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Firpo has signed with You First as a new agency, which is something that will play a part in any future contract talks.

However, Leeds fans simply just want the club to offer the full-back a new deal whether he accepts it or not.
