Kalvin Phillips could 'easily' quit Leeds United for 'top-five club' after update - pundit
Alex McLeish has admitted he can “easily see” Kalvin Phillips leaving Leeds United to join Manchester United this summer.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the lure of Old Trafford might be too great for the 26-year-old.
As reported by The Athletic (27 April), Man United have begun exploring, via intermediaries, a possible £50million move for Phillips.
Patrick Bamford, speaking to Hylo Athletics on Instagram back in September and quoted by the Athletic, revealed Phillips’ family “hate Man United” and that the academy product has been vocal about how “massive” games against the Red Devils are for Leeds.
However, McLeish insisted personal feelings would not get in the way of a move.
Asked if he thought Man United may struggle to tempt Phillips away due to his Leeds roots, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, maybe.

“However, the lure of Manchester United for any player…
“I know that they’re not in the best moment, but Manchester United are probably in one of the top five clubs in the world
“I mean that more in terms of financially and the aura of the club.
“So yeah, he may have played for Leeds but so did Joe Jordan and Gordon McQueen. You could easily see a bit of business going there.
“The fans will not be able to have a say in terms of him definitely not going.
“But they’ll certainly not be happy about it.”
Phillips has played 229 times for Leeds across all competitions to date.
He has 44 Premier League appearances and 19 England caps under his belt.
