Alan Hutton has suggested Kalvin Phillips' Man City future could be under threat as they target Jude Bellingham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Bellingham will be a regular starter if he joins City and that would push Phillips even further down the pecking order.

Phillips is already down the pecking order at the Etihad since his arrival in the summer and has made just seven Premier League appearances this season but has only played 102 minutes in total.

His current contract runs until 2028 but could be shipped out as early as the summer.

Pep Guardiola's side are pushing hard to do a deal for the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund star and may need to sell Phillips if they succeed in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

When asked if Bellingham's arrival could push Phillips out the door, Hutton told Football Insider: "He definitely goes down the pecking order, that is just the way it is.

"You look to bring players in that are going to make your team better. Phillips is not playing regularly at this moment in time, I think Jude Bellingham comes in and starts in that Man City team.

"Although it is an amazing team I think he still makes them better so that could be the catalyst for Phillips to move on.

"When you start falling down the pecking order, it is not helping you. Yes you are at a big team but it does not help you become a better footballer so it might be time for him to move on."
