Exclusive: Paul Robinson wowed by hardly-seen Spurs rookie 'working with Harry Kane every day'

Paul Robinson has tipped Troy Parrott to be the Tottenham player to watch out for in 2020.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper is getting excited about the 17-year-old striker, who is already a full Republic of Ireland international.

Parrott made his second Tottenham appearance and first in the Premier League in last Saturday’s 5-0 mauling of Burnley, coming off the bench with five minutes left.

It came three months after he was handed his debut in the League Cup by former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Asked by Football Insider to name the Tottenham player to watch out for next year, Robinson said: “Somebody who’s hardly played yet, gone one [Spurs] appearance under his belt but Troy Parrott, he’s got his first cap for the Republic of Ireland and he’s still only 17.

“Pochettino has had him in and around the squad for a while, he’s working with Harry Kane on a daily basis so I think if somebody is to take the load off Harry Kane, if they’re not going to sign anybody, he’s one to watch, whether he goes out on loan or he stays next season.”

Parrott has been a prolific scorer for Tottenham and Ireland at age-group levels, and is already regarded as outgrowing Under-23s football.

He is the Spurs squad for tonight’s Champions League clash away to Bayern Munich as manager Jose Mourinho prepares to field an inexperienced side following his side’s qualification for the knockout stages.
