Karren Brady: This was a great signing by Leeds
By Alex Stevens
Karren Brady has hailed Garry Monk as a great appointment by Leeds and claimed she has no idea why he was sacked by Swansea.
Monk guided the Premier League club to their highest-ever top-flight finish of eighth before being unceremoniously sacked just months into last season.
But the 37-year-old has bounced back at Leeds, his second managerial post, and transformed the fortunes of a club that have been in the doldrums for so long.
The Yorkshire giants have mounted an against-the-odds promotion charge, with Thursday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa lifting them to fourth in the Championship table.
It is in stark contrast to the crisis that has enveloped manager-less Swansea, who sacked Bob Bradley last week after he failed to arrest a decline that threatens to end in relegation from the Premier League.

“I can’t quite see why Garry Monk was replaced in the first place last season,” said Brady in her weekly Sun column.
“He appeared to be doing a more than reasonable job by keeping the Swans in the top division and, as an ex-player who played in all four divisions for the club, he had a real rapport with supporters.
“Leeds snapped him up and are doing very nicely.”
The Championship club are aiming to narrow the gap to the automatic promotion places when they host struggling Rotherham at Elland Road on Monday.
Meanwhile, Swansea are 20th in the table heading into their pivotal fixture against Bournemouth at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In other Leeds news, this first-teamer will not be at the club next season after falling out with Monk.
