The Premier League could contact Liverpool after Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz was struck by a ball thrown by a fan at Anfield.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that Andy Madley should have reported the incident in his post-match notes on Saturday, 25 April.

Palace’s No.2 became the pantomime villain on Merseyside when lofting the ball over an injured Freddie Woodman to halve his team’s deficit, taking advantage of the goalkeeper being down inside his area.

Liverpool went on to beat Palace 3-1, with goals from Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz, but there continues to be a fallout from the game as footage goes viral on social media.

Daniel Munoz could have been injured at Anfield

Following his goal, the home supporters were furious, with one choosing to take his anger out on the Eagles’ full-back, launching a ball at his head while going to take a throw-in.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: “Liverpool’s stadium has a lot of cameras, and it can easily detect who threw the ball. They must deal with whoever has thrown the ball.

“Hopefully, the referee has reported it, so the club will be asked for their observations, and then the authorities will determine if any action needs to be taken.

“It might be a bit of a joke, a bit of a smile, but I’m not happy about things being thrown by spectators. It could easily have been an object that injured the player.”

The atmosphere at Anfield has been increasingly frustrated this season, and despite calls for his head, Football Insider understands that Liverpool have no plans to sack Arne Slot.

Thanks to the 3-1 win this weekend, the Reds have overtaken Aston Villa in the Premier League table, moving up to fourth on goal difference, with Champions League football now very likely next season.

However, for one supporter, they may receive a punishment after landing a football on Munoz’s head. As Hackett says, many have found the funny side, but it could have been a lot more serious.

Especially in Europe, missiles are often launched onto the pitch, and the same could have easily happened here.
