Keith Wyness disagrees with ‘unhappy’ Everton fans over latest development

Everton’s failure to qualify for European football this season has left a portion of the fanbase disappointed with their campaign.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who is “happy” with the Toffees’ season.

It was the club’s first season at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium home and David Moyes’ side managed to avoid a relegation battle.

However, Moyes’ side were in a strong position to bring European football to Merseyside next season but a run of six games without a win ended those hopes.

Moyes has ambitions to ensure Everton qualify for Europe in the near future, and this season could prove to be a opportunity missed.

Everton settle for campaign of ‘no drama’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there have been multiple games that Moyes’ team should have won this season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness though states that the club’s key objectives have been achieved.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “We [Everton] have got to take this season.

“We always wanted to have a mid-table type season of no drama, no relegation fight and try and settle in partly to the new stadium.

“And those things, we’ve ticked the box. So overall, I’m happy. A lot of fans obviously aren’t happy because they expect more.

“There have been a number of games which Everton could have gone on and won quite easily. So there have been a lot of points dropped, but overall, there has been a big improvement.”

Who could Everton sign in the summer transfer window?

To push for European football again next season, Moyes is preparing to add extra quality and depth to his squad this summer.

Moyes is set to target a new full-back, midfielder and forward as part of his summer transfer plans, whilst Jack Grealish is expected to make his loan move permanent.

Sources have told Football Insider that West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen could reunite with Moyes at Everton, whilst Chelsea striker Liam Delap has been linked with a move to Merseyside.

John Stones and Ben White could also join Everton, as the club look to continue to show its ambition on and off the pitch.
