Everton's former CEO Keith Wyness has insisted Aston Villa could sell Jacob Ramsey this summer in a bid to raise transfer funds.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - explained that Villa will have players to sell if necessary to bolster their squad.

The former Everton chief explained that having sellable assets to allow them to reinvest will enable Villa to continue their progress and compete in the Champions League.

Ramsey, 22, featured just 21 times for Villa this season after an injury-stricken year, and Football Insider revealed he could be the next home-grown star at the club to be sold for big money.

Wyness backed Unai Emery and Monchi to continue their good work, with the sales of players like Ramsey would allow them to maintain their strong position.

"They've certainly got high quality players like Jacob Ramsey, who they could sell to raise some funds," he told Football Insider.

"I think Villa are very well-placed because they have good quality players to sell, as well as ones that they want to bring in.

"They're well-positioned to maintain this challenge.

"The key for Emery will be getting a deep enough squad to sustain injuries and the quality of playing in the Champions League.

"He's got experience in Europe so he'll know what he's getting into.
