Keith Wyness ‘hearing question marks from the top of Liverpool’ about Arne Slot’s position

Liverpool remain uncertain over whether Arne Slot is the right manager to lead the club into next season.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, about what he has heard about Slot’s position at Anfield.

Slot has faced increasing pressure from supporters this season as the Reds have lost 20 games in all competitions and will finish the campaign trophyless.

The Dutchman has also faced scrutiny from his own players, including Mohamed Salah, who believes the club need to return to being a “heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear.”

Xabi Alonso had been a favourite to replace Slot at Liverpool, but the club will need to identify a new contender after the Spaniard decided to join rivals Chelsea.

Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool ‘very debatable’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Slot is losing support having now tried to change Liverpool away from Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks a managerial change could be needed at Liverpool.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s fair to say now that Slot did inherit that team from Klopp.

“That season, when Liverpool won the league, was Klopp’s team. And they played with Klopp’s spirit. They played heavy metal to a degree. Slot didn’t have time to really change it.

“Now Slot has started to put his imprint on it. They’ve had a disaster of a transfer window. He’s lost a lot of support from the dressing room. It’s still not certain if Slot is going to be carrying on next year. There have been noises the last few weeks and, all of a sudden, again, I’m hearing question marks coming again at the top in Liverpool.

“So it’s going into an off season where in Scotland, we’d call it he’s on a sugary peg. It’s when the peg where you hang your jacket is maybe coming out of the wall. Slot’s in that situation where it’s very debatable right now.

“It doesn’t give the culture within the club the real boost it needs, and possibly a change would have been right.”

Price tag revealed on Liverpool transfer target

Liverpool need to make a decision on Slot’s future as the club are expected to be busy rebuilding their squad in the summer transfer window.

The Reds will need to replace the departing Salah and Andy Robertson, whilst numerous other stars could join them out of the Anfield exit door.

A new midfielder could be a target for the club, and sources have revealed to Football Insider that Monaco’s Lamine Camara could be available for £40million this summer amid interest from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has started 22 Ligue 1 matches for Monaco this season, and his performances have earned him a call-up to Senegal’s World Cup squad.
