Keith Wyness: ‘I completely disagree’ with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s latest Man United claim

Sir Jim Ratcliffe should not be comparing what he has done at Manchester United to the actions of the Government.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Ratcliffe stating he has made “tough decisions” at Man United.

Ratcliffe has been the centre of controversy recently for his comments surrounding immigration, which he later apologised for, with Man United releasing a statement distancing themselves from their owner.

The 73-year-old has held control over football operations at the club since 2024, and has made a number of contentious moves during his tenure so far.

Keith Wyness slams Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘strategy’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Ratcliffe has got “lucky” at Man United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness disagrees that Ratcliffe’s decisions at Man United have helped the club move forward.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, there’s two things, and obviously, there has been a lot of coverage of his words and a lot of comment, et cetera, but I want to try and stick to the football points that were made there.

“Firstly, in his statement, he talked about having, you know, people within government having to make hard decisions. And then he alluded to what they’ve done at Man United.

“I think his quote was something like, things are starting to go good at Man United and that’s because we are making some tough decisions as people in government should be doing.

“Well, actually, I would completely disagree with that because I think what’s happened at Man United is they’ve got lucky due to events that have happened. Their strategy was about getting people like [Ruben] Amorim in there and Erik ten Hag before him.

“That was the strategy from INEOS and Ratcliffe. And so it’s difficult to accept that they have made this out as a planned strategy to go forward. So I think he’s been a bit disingenuous with that.”

Man United players stance on Ratcliffe controversy revealed

Whilst Ratcliffe’s comments have caused controversy in public, it is not believed that the noise will affect the players at the club.

Man United stars will have their views on the situation, but focus remains on the pitch, and qualifying for the Champions League.

Interim manager Michael Carrick is still unbeaten since his appointment, with the Red Devils currently in the Premier League top four.
