Kemar Roofe backed for Rangers stay amid 'injury' verdict - pundit

Kevin Campbell has urged Kemar Roofe to stay at Rangers and fight for his place this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton goalscorer claimed an injury or two could see the 29-year-old back in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s starting XI.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, via The Scottish Sun (25 July), Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Roofe on a season-long loan deal.

The ex-Leeds United striker has two years remaining on his contract at Ibrox.

His future at the club is in doubt though after the signing of forward Antonio Colak this summer.

When asked by Football Insider if Roofe should exit or stay and fight for his place, Campbell said: “Stay and fight for your place.

“He is more than good enough to be playing for Rangers.

“There is going to be injuries throughout the season. He will get his chance.

“You need a squad to compete in Europe as well. Rangers have so many games ahead of them this season. There is a lot of football to be played.

“One injury can change your destiny. We have seen it happen before. Last season he was nowhere at times and then all of a sudden he was starting after an injury or two. I think he will hang around for another season at least.”

Roofe made 36 appearances for the Gers across all competitions last season.

He scored 16 goals in those outings.
