Kenny Dalglish cited as Aston Villa expert issues 'tremendous' player claim
“Tremendous” Aston Villa star John McGinn has earned comparisons to Kenny Dalglish after a dazzling international display.
That’s according to former Villains and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the midfielder scored his first goal of the season.
McGinn, 27, scored Scotland’s first in a 3-0 UEFA Nations League win over Ukraine on Wednesday (21 September).
The Villa captain used his body to spin past Valeriy Bondar and fire into the bottom corner.
McGinn has started all seven of his club side’s Premier League games this season though he has failed to score or assist.
McLeish was blown away by the midfielder’s attacking movement agianst Ukraine.

“McGinn, tremendous. Kenny Dalglish was the famous one for the bum thing,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“I took John to Peru, we played games in South America, and I said to James McFadden at the time, if John can perfect the bum thing, then it is another great thing in his locker.
“Kenny perfected it. At that time John was still getting his pocket picked, he was still a young player learning against some good South American players.
“He tried it a couple of times in the game and he got dispossessed but I always said that if he can perfect that then it is a great bit of armoury.
“He has done that and, sure enough, over the last couple of years he has done it at an extremely good technical level.”
Scotland have two more games during this international break, against Ireland on Saturday (24 Septmeber) and Ukraine on Tuesday (27 September).
Villa are next in action against Aston Villa on 2 October.
