Kenny: Rodriguez is crippling Everton after 'crazy' news
Paddy Kenny has branded James Rodriguez’s £250,000 per week wage at Everton as “crazy”.
The former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 30-year-old’s wage was a sad indictment on the direction football was heading.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on Sunday (September 12th) that Everton failed to offload the Colombian superstar due to his eye-watering contract at Goodison Park.
The agreement, which has two years to run, is worth more than £1million per month.
It was negotiated by sporting director Marcel Brands, who was instrumental to securing Rodriguez on a free transfer last summer.
The ex-Real Madrid ace has yet to feature for new Everton boss Rafa Benitez this season.

Benitez sanctioned the exit of Rodriguez in the summer window, but no suitors were willing to match his current salary at Goodison Park.
Kenny insisted that the star’s wages must be having a detrimental effect on Everton’s financial situation.
“They must have the money, but it’s a lot to be spending on a player like that,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“It just shows you how crazy football has gone, that Everton are willing to pay that sort of money.
“I’m sure it’s hitting them hard every month.”
Rodriguez’s initial promise quickly fizzled out last season but the midfielder was a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton side.
He made 21 Premier League starts for the now-Real Madrid manager, scoring six and assisting four.
Everton’s transfer business was uncharacteristically muted over the summer, with the Merseyside club spending just £1.7million on transfer fees.
This stands in stark contrast to their last pre-pandemic window in Summer 2019. During that period, the Goodison Park club spent in excess of £100million on incomings.
In other news, pundit is surprised that this star has left the Toffees.
