Kenny 'sure' Heckingbottom has been given transfer 'guarantee' by Sheffield United

Paddy Kenny insists Paul Heckingbottom has had “guarantees” he will be backed by Sheffield United in January.

The former Blades stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims his former side can still reach the play-offs this season.

Sheffield United claimed a second win under Heckingbottom on Saturday (4 December) with a 3-2 win over Cardiff.

The result took the Blades up to 10th in the Championship table, just four points off the top six.

They have won their last three games, representing a significant improvement on the form that got Slavisa Jokanovic fired.

Kenny is expecting the club’s faith in Heckingbottom to be demonstrated in the January window.

“They have won three and drawn one of the last four,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“10 points from 12 and those play-off spots are looking a lot closer.

“I think they would be foolish not to invest. They handed him a four-year deal, I’m sure he’s had guarantees.

“If he wants players, he needs to get them. If we get a few more points then we will be in and around the play-offs.

“That’s crazy to say because we’ve had a poor season and sacked the manager.

“But promotion has to be the aim this season and I think two or three players in January gives us a great chance.

“Promotion is key and we have a chance.

The Blades are next in action against QPR next Monday (13 December).

The R’s are firmly in the mix to secure a play-off place following a strong start to the season.
