Kevin Phillips has predicted Leeds United star Raphinha to push for an Elland Road exit to Liverpool this summer.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant that the 24-year-old will want to move to Merseyside to link up with the Reds.
Brazilian news outlet UOL Sport conducted an interview with the winger last week where he responded to speculation about Liverpool wanting to sign him, while he also detailed his text messages with “great friend” Roberto Firmino.
When asked by Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs whether Raphinha would consider a move to Liverpool, Phillips said:
“100% he would, no disrespect to Leeds but why would he not join Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp? He will jump at it.
“I was very surprised when Diogo Jota went to Liverpool but when you get an opportunity to join Liverpool you do it, so I’m sure he is flattered being linked.
“If there is half a chance in the summer I would imagine the player would push for it.”
Raphinha made 30 Premier League appearances for Leeds United last season, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists.
The Brazilian joined from French side Rennes in October 2020, helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side to a ninth-place finish on their return to the top-flight after a 16-year absence.
He has moved clubs in each of the last two summer transfer windows, leaving Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon for Rennes in 2019 before linking up with Leeds last year.
