Liverpool moved into the Premier League’s top-four for the first time since August with a comfortable 5-1 victory over newly-promoted Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds took the lead midway through the first-half when Emre Can powered a header past Mat Ryan into the centre of the goal.

They doubled their lead moments later when Roberto Firmino finished off a superb counter-attacking move, after a great ball across the face of goal from Philippe Coutinho.

Glenn Murray missed a great chance to put Brighton back in the game, he was denied by Simon Mignolet from close range.

The home side were made to pay for that miss as Liverpool made it 3-0 moments later, another brilliant move, finished off by Firmino once more for his second of the game, after being well-found by Mohamed Salah.

Brighton were awarded a controversial penalty, for what appeared to be a push by Jordan Henderson on the back of centre-back Shane Duffy.

Murray swept the ball high into the top corner to make it 3-1, but Liverpool thoroughly deserved the victory.

Countinho added a fourth for the visitors with a brilliant free-kick before an own goal by Lewis Dunk made it 5-1.

The result sees them move above Arsenal into fourth place in the table, with the Gunners in action this evening against Manchester United.
