Kieran Maguire issues 'huge' claim as David Moyes fears West Ham 'state secrets' leak

West Ham should look at the “huge success” of Formula One’s Drive to Survive documentary series to see how the Premier League can commercially profit from a similar approach.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the growing possibility of the English top-flight commissioning its own documentary.

The Athletic reported on 23 September that the Premier League was in initial talks with the creators of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

Hammers boss David Moyes is among the managers who wants a say in whether camera crews would be given access to dressing rooms, per the Daily Mail on Monday (10 October).

It is claimed that the 59-year-old voiced his concerns at a recent Premier League managers’ meeting.

But Maguire claims that there is little risk of the Hammers’ “state secrets” being revealed during filming.

“The Premier League and some of the clubs will have seen the huge success the Drive to Survive programme has had,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It has attracted a different audience to Formula One. They would like that repeated as far as football is concerned.

“They would like people who have a passing interest in the sport if the shows are marketed in such a way that it shows a human interest story as well as the excitement that takes play on the field of play.

“So, while Moyes might be reluctant to give cameras access to the dressing room, it will be relatively neutered by advanced warning.

“I therefore think that the chances of any state secrets of West Ham being leaked are relatively insignificant.”
