Kieran Maguire issues ‘very attractive’ West Ham claim after £60m deal update
West Ham will consider “all options” for new front-of-shirt sponsorship deals despite the government cracking down on gambling partnerships.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about West Ham’s search for sponsorship opportunities.
West Ham chief Karren Brady recently revealed that the Hammers are in line for new sponsors to replace Betway next season.
The London club currently boast the most lucrative gambling sponsorship in the top flight, with their Betway deal earning the club £60million over its six-year contract.
But as revealed by Football Insider sources on Friday (10 March) a white paper on gambling reform is set to be released that sets out specific curbs on the gambling industry’s involvement in football.
However, Maguire suspects the white paper will not prohibit gambling sponsors and believes West Ham will continue to consider all opportunities for their next partnership.
“West Ham will be looking at all options,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They are a very attractive proposition for sponsors given their large fanbase and their location in London.
“They have great history and heritage and I’m sure they will be able to capitalise on that.
“On top of that, they are in Europe this season – even if that looks less likely to be the case next season.
“ I suspect the gambling white paper will not deliver any prohibition of gambling sponsors as far as front-of-shirt partners
“Given that the gambling industry is one of the biggest payers for clubs outside the big six, you could see West Ham courting all options and opportunities to get top value.“
