Kieran Maguire shreds Daniel Levy after latest Tottenham statement - 'I'm sure...'

The launch of a new fan advisory board at Tottenham will leave fans ‘disappointed’ because Daniel Levy will not want to surrender control.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the ‘mixed’ results of fan advisory boards in the Premier League.

Following the 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United, Tottenham released a club statement last Tuesday (25 April) revealing details of a new Fan Advisory Board.

The new board is designed to produce greater fan engagement and wide representation for supporters and include fans in the club’s decision-making process.

Premier League clubs in November 2022 unanimously approved the introduction of the Premier League Fan Engagement Standard, which will see all 20 top-flight clubs introduce Fan Advisory Boards (FABs).

Maguire believes the introduction of fan boards have so far brought ‘mixed’ success, but believes Daniel Levy’s involvement in the scheme at Spurs will frustrate fans.

The fan advisory boards that we have seen to date have been a mixed bag,” Maguire told Football Insider.

Some clubs are very progressive and realise the importance of fans in terms of communication, consultation and engagement.

Other clubs very much see it as a box-ticking exercise trying to appease the fan-led review into football governance.

It is likely that Tottenham under Daniel Levy will fall into the second category.

Daniel Levy’s track record is one of micromanagement and control – he is unlikely to give any insights to fans or allow them to into the decision-making process at the club.

I’m sure Spurs fans will be disappointed by this.
