Celtic are likely to be unable to return Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney to the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old has admitted a return to Parkhead would only happen if he felt "100%" in his body after a string of injuries in recent years.

Sources say a reunion would be a "dream" for both player and club, but it is believed there are major question marks about Celtic's financial ability to strike the deal.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (9 July) that Tierney is not in the plans of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for next season.

The Gunners are now ready to accept offers for the left-back despite his contract running until June 2026.

Major question marks about Celtic reunion with Tierney

But despite the London club's willingness to sell, it is believed a deal is likely to be out of the reach of Celtic this summer.

Tierney was loaned out to Spanish side Real Sociedad for the 2023-24 campaign after falling out of favour at Arsenal.

He made 27 appearances for the Spanish side, with 17 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.

The 27-year-old joined Arsenal from Celtic for a reported £25million in 2019 - which was a record sale for the Glasgow giants at the time.

Tierney graduated from the Hoops' academy and made 170 appearances for the club before sealing his Premier League move.
