Klopp confirms double Liverpool injury blow ahead of clash v West Ham

By Danny Wright

Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Friday that Roberto Firmino and Lucas Leiva are doubts for Liverpool’s trip to West Ham.

The Reds travel to the London Stadium on Sunday knowing that if results go their way, they can secure qualification to the Champions League with a victory.

However Liverpool’s task could be made harder due to the latest double injury blow, although Klopp has remained optimistic about the Brazilian duo’s return.

“Roberto and Lucas felt something this week. We will have to see,” said the 49-year-old in a pre-match press conference on Friday, as quoted by Liverpool’s official Twitter account.

“Roberto felt a muscle – we have to wait and give him time. Lucas will train today. Roberto will train tomorrow if possible.”

Firmino has been one of the key features in Liverpool’s attack this season, scoring 12 goals and supplying ten assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old’s last strike came in the 1-0 win against West Brom in mid-April but he has failed to contribute to any goals since going on a run of six games in which he had his hand in seven different goals.

Lucas, 30, has recently emerged as one of the main men in Klopp’s midfield and has started six of the last seven league matches.

The Mirror have claimed that Brighton are looking to sign the 22-times Brazilian international ahead of their maiden season in the Premier League.

He has played 29 times in all competitions this season, scoring once and providing three assists.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp has said what he thinks the reason is behind his team’s failure to keep up with league leaders Chelsea.
