Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool will be without Divock Origi for their two fixtures in the Audi Cup this week.
The 22-year-old has not been given a timeframe for the hamstring injury which kept him out of Saturday’s win over Hertha Berlin in Germany, however Klopp has reassured that it is only minor.
With the Premier League season approaching, it’s no doubt a blow to Origi and Liverpool’s preparations ahead of their clash at Watford next weekend.
The Reds face Bayern Munich and Napoli in their pre-season fixtures this week, and although they will be without their Belgian attacker, Klopp has remained upbeat about him returning to fitness soon.
“Divock won’t be available for the two Audi Cup games. He has picked up a very slight muscle injury,” said Klopp to Liverpool’s official website.
“We are being cautious with this but it makes sense. He will be monitored over the next few days but we are not overly concerned.”
Although most of his game time was from the bench last season, Origi still emerged as one of the vital components of Klopp’s attacker as his side secured qualification to the Champions League.
He earned 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and supplying four assists in the process.
However the former Lille ace is now facing the fact of dropping down the pecking order at Anfield following the arrival of Mohamed Salah and the return to fitness of Daniel Sturridge.
Klopp has plenty of options in attack with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho all capable of switch roles with one another.
