Liverpool are preparing to rival Paris Saint-Germain for Julian Draxler after being warned off Christian Pulisic, according to a report.
The Times claim that the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has identified the 23-year-old playmaker as a transfer target, but French giants PSG are also in contention for his signature.
The report details that Klopp has highlighted him as a January target to boost his attacking options, but PSG are believed to be in pole position after having a transfer request rejected in the summer.
It is understood that Draxler is set to leave Wolfsburg after he completed a £30million deal from Schalke in 2015.
The Times report that Klopp had looked at Borussia Dortmund attacker Pulisic, but the Bundesliga are refusing to sell him unless there is a “ridiculous offer”.
Draxler is a World Cup winner with Germany and currently plays for Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
The attacking midfielder can play centrally or out wide and is regarded as one of Germany’s brightest youngsters, but has made just two assists in 14 appearances this season.
Draxler made 170 senior appearances for his former club Schalke, scoring 30 goals and supplying 29 assists.
Liverpool currently have several quality attackers in their squad and are the Premier League’s top scorers this season.
The Reds boss Klopp believes that Draxler could add to his options and it would be his first taste of English football if he completed a move to Anfield.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool should make a January move for Julian Draxler as he could help their pursuit of the title. The Reds are six points adrift of league leaders Chelsea and have already encountered injury blows this season. Draxler could be a great option to have competing alongside Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for a starting place. The German has shown glimpses during his career of his quality and his skilful approach could work well in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp has identified Draxler as a target for the club and Draxler’s hard work should fit his style of football.
