New Celtic signing Marvin Compper has revealed how a meeting over breakfast with Brendan Rodgers was enough to persuade him to join the Hoops.
The 32-year-old centre-back joined the Scottish champions from Leipzig, and he disclosed it was the professionalism and research of the Northern Irishman which lead him to leave Germany for Scotland.
“I was invited to his home for breakfast. There was gluten-free bread and lactose-free cereal” he said, as quoted by Sportbuzzer.de.
“And then he showed me an eight-page exposé about me. He knew everything about me, knew my taste for healthy food and even the age of my wife and children.”
The former Fiorentina player was the first signing of the January transfer window by the Hoops, as Rodgers looks to solve defensive issues which have at times plagued his side this season, particularly in Europe.
Compper is set to join his new team-mates in Dubai as they continue their winter break ahead of the return of action on Saturday the 20th against Brechin the Scottish Cup, a game which the new signing may well feature in.
Compper is expected to add experience to a Celtic back-line which is lacking in that department since the retirement of Kolo Toure. He may well partner 19-year-old Kristoffer Ajer, who has quickly established himself in the Hoops side after the 4-0 defeat to Hearts.
The only down side to the signing is that he will be unable to play against Zenit in the Europa League last 32 tie in February, as he already featured for Leipzig in the competition earlier this season.
