Kris Boyd hits out at Celtic fans, claims they need a reality check
By Harvey Byrne
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has hit out at Celtic fans, claiming they need a reality check after this season’s domestic success.
The Hoops have been the dominant side in Scotland this campaign and on Sunday they managed to complete the Premiership season unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Hearts.
The victory has seen them finish on 106 points after 38 games and they are also on course to win the treble with a Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen scheduled for next weekend, while they have already won the Scottish League Cup.
However, in Europe the Hoops had far differing success and they were knocked out at the Champions League group stage without a win from their six matches with three draws and three losses.
Now, Boyd has told Celtic fans not to get ahead of themselves and has stated that while supporters may expect them to progress in Europe, he believes the club won’t.

“Years back, Fergus McCann told some Celtic players they needed a reality check,” wrote Boyd in his column for the Scottish Sun.
“Right now, I can’t help but think that’s what a lot of the club’s fans could be doing with.
“Well done to Brendan Rodgers and his team for winning the Premiership at a canter.
“I fully expect them to steamroll Hearts at home this lunchtime to finish the season unbeaten.
“But it strikes me that they have some supporters who now expect to see them really compete with the big boys in Europe next season.
“Well, I’ve got news for them. It’s not going to happen.
“Celtic should be good enough to get through the qualifiers and into the group stages. But that’s it.
“They’ll need to be lucky to get any further, despite what I’m hearing from a lot of their fans.
“I can’t get my head around it, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, the job Rodgers has done this season has been outstanding.
“People talk about the players but it’s largely the same squad as last season. Rodgers has simply shown the difference a top manager can make.
“He’s underlined how poor an appointment Ronny Deila was.
“Celtic have run amok domestically. They’ve been far too good for every other team week after week.
“But let’s get it right, the standard of Scottish football right now is the WORST it’s ever been.
“I hate saying that because you’ll not find anyone more positive about our game than me. But it’s the truth.”
Summer appointment Brendan Rodgers has limited experience in the Champions League, but with both Liverpool and Celtic he has failed to take make it past the group stage.
He will now surely be looking to right past wrongs and he will be scouring the summer market for players who he feels can make an impact for Celtic in Europe next season.
