La Liga expert 'amazed' as Newcastle submit new Carlos offer

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Sevilla defender Diego Carlos amid interest from Newcastle United in his signature.

The former Arsenal striker, who has delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV, told Football Insider that the 28-year-old has all of the attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League.

The Magpies want to add two centre-halves to their squad after completing the signing of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

According to The Times (12 January), have submitted a fresh bid in the region of £28million for Diego Carlos.

It comes after an initial offer was rebuffed by the La Liga club at the start of the week.

“He is big, strong, aggressive, quick, no-nonsense type defender. He would be right up Newcastle’s street.

“I’m a fan of his. I’ve watched a lot of him at Sevilla over the past couple of years. He is someone who you can rely on. His physicality would make him well-suited to the Premier League.

“I think he’d be an amazing addition for Newcastle if they can get him but I doubt he’ll come cheap. It’s certainly an area they need to strengthen in.”

Carlos has made 27 appearances across all competitions this season and has scored twice.

The Brazil international has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in Spain.
