Barcelona are prepared to offer midfielders Rafinha and Denis Suarez to Liverpool in part-exchange for playmaker Philippe Coutinho this summer, according to a report.

Don Balon claims that the Merseyside club are seeking to receive around £134million for the 25-year-old but the Catalans are desperate not to spend that amount of money in the transfer window.

The Spanish outlet reports that Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is planning to include midfield duo Rafinha and Suarez with a reasonable amount of money in order to snap up Coutinho before the start of the new campaign.

It is said that both players failed to impress at the Camp Nou last season and letting them leave the club would free up space for the Brazilian in Barcelona’s midfield.

Rafinha, 24, enjoyed his best spell with the La Liga giants in terms of numbers last season, contributing with seven goals and five assists in all competitions.

Suarez, 24, only signed for Barcelona last summer but he failed to make an impact last season, only starting in 12 league matches.

Both players currently have three years remaining on their contracts at the Camp Nou.

Football Insider verdict

Liverpool must not be persuaded into letting Coutinho leave the club this summer. The Brazilian was arguably their best performer last season and they simply cannot afford to lose him especially with Champions League football on the horizon. Rafinha and Suarez are technically gifted players but both might find it difficult to adapt to the Premier League and it could take them some time to find their feet on Merseyside. The duo will be unable to replace Coutinho’s goals from midfield and both players could even struggle to hold down a regular place in the team even with the Brazilian in the squad. With the new campaign less than a month away, the Reds must stick to their guns and keep Coutinho at the club for at least one more season.
