Lacazette 'could leave Arsenal' after confirmed news this week - Agbonlahor

Alexandre Lacazette may end up like Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he signs a long-term Arsenal contract, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Arsenal should only offer Lacazette a one-year deal or let him go at the end of the season.

The striker, who has captained the club in the absence of Aubameyang, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

He has been in dazzling form in recent weeks with three assists and two goals in the Gunners’ last four Premier League games.

As quoted by the Daily Mail on Saturday (25 December), Mikel Arteta admitted the striker situation is casting a “cloud” at the club.

As well as Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah’s contract is up in the summer and Aubameyang has not been in a matchday squad since 6 December.

Asked whether Arsenal should tie Lacazette to a new deal, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They will offer Lacazette a new deal if it suits the club.

“They might offer him a one-year deal but he may want might longer than a year.

“Arsenal are now going to start learning their lesson from Ozil and Aubameyang and seize control with contracts. You get what you’re given or you don’t have it at all.

“That might see Lacazette leave but so be it. He’s a good player but he’s not a worldbeater so Arsenal should not be held to ransom by someone like Lacazette or Eddie Nketiah.

“They should look at it like ‘Ok, who else can we bring in? Who’s going to sign on our terms?'”
