Lacazette exit could pave way for three new Arsenal signings after Standard update - Campbell

Alexandre Lacazette’s expected exit from Arsenal could make room on the wage bill for three new signings, according to Kevin Campbell.

The ex-Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped a “younger” striker to be one of the three additions made next year.

Lacazette‘s contract at the Emirates expires at the end of June next year.

As quoted by The Athletic (27 November), the striker told Telefoot that his agents are ‘looking’ at options for him with his deal expiring next summer.

According to the Evening Standard (3 December), Arsenal are tracking Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 24, and Lille’s Jonathan David, 21.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Lacazette’s comments, Campbell said: “It is to be expected.

“January is very close and Lacazette only has six months of his contract left. He needs to look at what is best for him.

“He is one of the big earners at Arsenal. I believe his wage could probably be used to bring two or three players in.

“It is a case of freshening things up. His replacement needs to be younger. That will improve the team even more. It is a normal trade that has got to happen.

“Lacazette is going to go and when he does that will make room on the wage bill for new signings.”

Lacazette joined the Gunners from Lyon in July 2017.

He earns a reported £200,000-a-week at the Emirates.
