Joe Taylor is set for a call-up to the Wales squad ahead of this month's Nations League games, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One top scorer's performances for Huddersfield Town have placed him firmly on Craig Bellamy's radar, with the boss impressed by what he has seen.

Taylor, 23, has scored five goals and provided one assist in five games in the third tier so far this season and helped fire his side to second place in the division.

The striker has previously made three appearances for Wales' Under-21s side and scored one goal, but played his last game for his country back in November 2023.

Almost three years later, he looks to be in line for a senior call-up, with Bellamy assessing a number of options ahead of his squad announcement on 15 September.

Wales will face Porgual, Denmark, Norway and then Denmark again between 24 September and 4 October, with Taylor being lined up for a shot at international football.

Why have Wales been impressed by Joe Taylor?

Football Insider revealed back in 2025 that Huddersfield were delighted to have pulled off the signing of Taylor after he joined from Luton Town.

Since then, the striker has enjoyed a prolific loan spell with Wigan Athletic, where he scored 11 goals in the second half of last season, before establishing himself at Huddersfield.

His performances so far this season have placed him firmly on Bellamy's radar, and earned him high praise and a key role in Martin Drury's ambitious plans for the season.

Taylor's goalscoring record in the opening five games has made him the top scorer in League One, and he is set to play a starring role in what they hope will be a successful campaign.

Taylor will be competing with the likes of Kieffer Moore, Mark Harris, Liam Cullen and Nathan Broadhead for a place in the Wales squad, but his early-season form has made him a contender.

Which clubs have been interested in signing Taylor?

Taylor's performances have not just caught the eye of the Wales manager, but also of a number of clubs higher up the EFL, since his displays for Wigan last season.

Football Insider revealed back in March that Ipswich Town and Stoke City had scouts in attendance to watch Taylor, with both clubs interested in signing him.

Having continued his form into the new season, that interest in unlikely to fade, with clubs in the Championship believed to be keeping a close eye on his performances.

Huddersfield opted to prevent Taylor from leaving during the summer transfer window, and instead preferred to keep him, with their decision having paid off so far.
