Sheffield Wednesday have suddenly emerged out of nowhere to become the joint-favourites to sign Jamie Vardy this summer transfer window.

The 39-year-old striker is currently a free agent after being released by Cremonese at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

As a result, numerous Championship clubs have been linked with Vardy, including West Ham United.

However, one UK bookmaker has now slashed the odds of the Leicester legend making a move to Sheffield Wednesday down to 2/1.

On Tuesday, the Owls were not even considered to be one of the favourites to secure the deal, but now they are seen as the joint most likely club to seal the signing, alongside West Ham.

Vardy had been linked with a move to Hillsborough at the start of the summer, but these rumours have since quietened down.

Jamie Vardy would be a massive statement signing at Sheffield Wednesday

If the Owls can secure the signing of Vardy this summer, it would be a massive statement.

The striker clearly still has plenty of ability, and he netted seven goals in 29 games in Serie A last season.

According to Fotmob on 12 August, Vardy averaged 0.30 goals, a 0.21 xG, 1.28 shots and 0.60 shots on target for the relegated side last season.

Therefore, if he were to drop down into League One, he would likely find the net with ease as Sheffield Wednesday seek an immediate return to the Championship.

However, it remains to be seen if the Owls are able to secure a deal to bring Vardy back to his boyhood club this summer.

Who else is linked with Vardy?

On top of West Ham and Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester are yet to be ruled out of the race for Vardy.

The striker is just 5/1 to make a shock return to the King Power Stadium after leaving the club just over a year ago.

Wrexham are currently 8/1 to secure his signature, while a move to any Italian club is also placed at 8/1.

A return to the Premier League is also a possibility, with Newcastle United at 12/1 to make a shock deal with the former England international.

However, it remains to be seen where Vardy will be playing his football throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
