Sources: Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn set sights on Huddersfield's Joe Taylor
Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers are both lining up a summer swoop for Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor, sources have told Football Insider.
The 23-year-old starred in his loan spell with Wigan Athletic in the second half of last season, and could now get the chance to move to the Championship with Blackburn.
Ambitious Sheffield Wednesday have also identified him as a clear target, as they look to bounce back to the second tier at the first attempt.
Taylor netted 11 goals for Wigan after his loan move in January, a return which saw him end the campaign as their top goalscorer, despite only making 21 appearances.
That run of form took his league tally for the season up to 15, after he previously made a bright start to 2025-26 at Huddersfield.
The Terriers paid a fee of around £3million to sign the Welshman from Luton Town back in January 2024, but could be about to lose him already this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday battling for prolific League One frontman
Sheffield Wednesday want to flex their muscles after dropping back into League One, and they are now lining up a move for one of the league's most consistent goal scorers in recent years.
Taylor struck 10 goals from just 19 games during a loan spell with Lincoln City in 2023-24, and re-discovered that form at Wigan last term.
The frontman outscored his xG by over three goals across the entirety of 2025-26, and his goals with Wigan came as part of a team struggling at the foot of the table.
Wednesday and Blackburn have both identified him as a player who would add further quality to their attacks, with Blackburn even capable of offering Championship football.
The forward is still under contract at Huddersfield until the summer of 2029, so any deal is unlikely to come cheaply for the two interested parties.
Sheffield Wednesday chasing move for League One captain
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Wednesday are also chasing a deal for Doncaster Rovers captain Owen Bailey.
The South Yorkshire outfit face significant competition for the midfielder, with Stockport County, Oxford United, Bradford City and MK Dons all strong admirers.
The 27-year-old caught the eye with 13 goals and four assists in his first ever campaign at League One level last term, as he was the key cog in Doncaster's survival.
Bailey now appears destined to move on to bigger things this summer, with the queue of potential suitors only growing bigger after a strong campaign.
