Rotherham United 'on the verge' of appointing Mat Sadler as new manager
League Two side Rotherham United are "on the verge" of appointing Mat Sadler as their new manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The Millers have had the former Walsall boss on their radar in recent weeks, and now within touching distance of sealing a deal for him to take the reins.
The 41-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Walsall back in March, but previously led them to the League Two play-off final back in 2024-25.
Rotherham have been without a boss since Lee Clark departed after their relegation to League Two was confirmed, but are now about to see their search for a new man conclude.
Sadler is on the brink of joining the South Yorkshire outfit, as they look to find a route back into the third tier next term.
He previously spent two years on their books during his playing career, but made just one competitive appearance before multiple loan spells.
What can Rotherham expect from Mat Sadler?
Sadler is still a young manager in terms of his experience, with his only prior job coming in the form of his three years at the Bescot Stadium.
The former defender turned out over 100 times for the Black Country outfit across two spells during his playing career, and has cut his teeth there as a boss in recent years.
He led the Saddlers to 11th at the end of his first full season in charge back in 2023-24, before taking them to the play-off final the following season.
His team scored the most goals of any team in League Two across that 2024-25 campaign, as Stoke City loanee Nathan Lowe top scored with 15 league strikes.
Sadler has been looking for a new challenge since departing Walsall back in March, and Rotherham are now ready to provide that for him.
There will be big expectations at the New York Stadium next term, with the Millers set to play in the EFL's basement tier for the first time since 2012-13.
Rotherham face Championship interest for in-demand star
Football Insider revealed back in May that Rotherham are facing interest in Denzel Hall from both Cardiff City and Preston North End.
The Championship duo have both been alerted to the interest in the right wing-back, with Rotherham not expecting to be able to keep hold of him in League Two.
Hall is under contract at his current club until the summer of 2028, but they are prepared to accept any incoming offers for him once the window opens.
Cardiff and Preston are currently at the front of the queue for the 25-year-old, but it is expected that plenty more potential suitors could come forward.
