Samuel Saiz is finished at Leeds United regardless of whether his loan at Getafe becomes permanent in the summer, Football Insider understands.
The Spaniard, 28, returned to his homeland in mid-December and signed for the La Liga club in what Leed announced was a loan “with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer”.
A Leeds source told Football Insider that Saiz is “finished” at Elland Road and there is no way back at the club even though he has a contract that runs until 2021.
Marcelo Bielsa allowed the playmaker to quit mid-season amid concerns about his attitude behind the scenes at Thorp Arch and how it might affect the other players during their promotion challenge.
Leeds’ have stayed in the automatic promotion hunt without one of their most gifted players although consecutive Easter weekend defeats means they will almost certainly be condemned to the end-of-season play-offs.
Saiz has made little impact at Getafe, where he has started just two matches during his loan and has not had a single minute of action since 9 February.
Nevertheless, Leeds and their recruitment chief Victor Orta are confident of finding a willing buyer in Spain for the Real Madrid academy product.
It remains to be seen whether United can achieve their aim of securing a fee that is double the £3million they spent on Saiz in the summer of 2017.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that club chiefs are fuming behind the scenes after being trumped to “unbelievable” signing.
